Sidewalkless areas
Section 31 of 41
If there is no sidewalk available to use and you must travel on the shoulder of the road, position yourself facing traffic with the edge of the road to your left, and use the shorelining technique. Aim the knuckles of your grip hand 10 o’clock towards the edge of the road and tap the Glide button. Relax your wrist back to 12 o’clock and walk forward without pressing any other buttons. Glide will maintain a safe distance from the left edge of the road and prevent you from veering right into traffic. If there are parked cars or other obstacles in the road, Glide will steer around them and return to the left shoreline. At intersections, Glide will continue shorelining left onto the perpendicular street. If you wish to cross the perpendicular street and continue on the original parallel road, follow Glide through the left turn, then stop. Pivot yourself and Glide 90 degrees right, listen for safe timing to cross, point your knuckles towards the desired up-curb, press and hold the Glide button and cross to the far side of the street. Resume shorelining by aiming the knuckles of your grip hand 10 o’clock towards the edge of the road and tap the Glide button. Relax your wrist back to 12 o’clock and walk forward without pressing any other buttons.
If you are traveling where traffic drives on the left, such as the United Kingdom, mirror this technique. Face traffic with the edge of the road on your right, aim the knuckles of your grip hand 2 o’clock towards the edge of the road, and tap the Glide button. Glide will keep a safe distance from the right edge of the road and prevent you from veering left into traffic.
