Level 3: Outdoor Skills
Section 20 of 41
Begin on a simple sidewalk, in a quiet residential area. Practice proper alignment and body position while walking forward, parallel to the street. Next try making right and left turns from the sidewalk into your driveway or walkway towards your home. You can also try the scanning technique to locate clear paths to walk on (wheels roll) and their defined edges (wheels brake). These tasks may seem simple and repetitive from the indoor tutorials, but now you are also incorporating more complex environmental sounds, textures, and lighting conditions, as well as any unexpected pedestrians, and vehicles. Take your time to get really comfortable with the device, there is no rush!
