Doors
Section 24 of 41
Automatic doors
When you hear the sound of an automatic door opening, point Glide in that direction and push the Glide button to set your alignment. If you are too far left or right, Glide will apply the brakes to prevent you from hitting the doorframe. If this happens, make minor adjustments to your alignment and push the Glide button again.
Single doors
Does the door hinge on the right or the left? Does it pull towards you or push away from you? The easiest way to go through a door with Glide is to support the door with the hand that is closest to the hinges. Depending on the door, you may need to temporarily switch which hand you use Glide with. After clearing the doorframe, you can resume using your regular Glide hand.
Double doors
Choose to use the door with hinges closest to your free-hand so you don’t have to switch your Glide grip.
Revolving doors
Wherever there is a revolving door, there should also be a standard hinge door as an accessible alternative. If you choose to use the revolving door, identify which way the door is rotating. Position yourself towards the center of the door and Glide at the widest, outside edge. You may have to switch hands. Push the bar forward with your free hand. When Glide detects the opening it will exit the revolving door and you can follow it out to the other side.
When you are seated in a restaurant, meeting, church, school, or worksite
Check your surroundings and place Glide in a safe place near you where it will not trip anyone or be disturbed. Rest Glide on the kickstand in standby position, and collapse both sections of stem to their shortest height. Face the cameras towards a wall or, towards yourself.
Public restrooms
Be mindful of privacy. When using a bathroom stall, urinal, or sink always face Glide’s cameras towards a solid wall or door.
